NOAH is a faith-based non profit organisation that has been providing services to needy pensioners in the Western Cape for 28 years. They were formed by Catholic Welfare and Development. They provide an integrated package of services including housing, health care and social clubs.
Their homes are community-based keeping the elderly in their communities for as long as possible. Their clients are pensioners who rely on a social grant of R1010 per month.

The NOAH Soap Project was started in Khayelitsha in 2010 as a way for elderly members of NOAH social clubs to generate income in a fun and companionable way.
70 percent of all proceeds from the sale of the soap go directly to the NOAH Soap makers. The balance of 30 % is used for manufacturing costs such as the purchasing of glycerine and supplies. “The main aim of the project is to boost the limited State pension of the Soap makers,” said Anne van Niekerk, NOAH Programme Manager.” What makes this project unique is that older persons are not historically associated with industry, income generation and contributing to the environment. This project ticks all three boxes: older persons are able to boost their state incomes by as much as 25 % per month, discarded soap takes on a new life and the environment is the better for it,” she said.
Winchester Mansions is glad to be able to donate unused pieces of soap to enable NOAH to generate income for those in need.
